Modelling]
The possibility of replacing rebar
with braided hybrid composites is examined in this research project.
Hybrid aramid/carbon braids are made in a continuous pultrusion
line and evaluated for mechancial response.
- The desired ductility of the material
has been demonstrated.
- Mechanical properties are competitive
with steel on weight basis
- Corrosion resistance is substantially
higher than steel
- Opportunity for on site production
exists, greatly reducing transportation costs.
